Join us to celebrate National Cat Day with completing your own cat painting with instruction led by Alena at Metro Arts Community Center. Refreshments and light snacks will be provided. Medium will be acrylic; participants will be able to take their creation home with them at the end of the night.

This 7 - week class will be taught by Deanna Estes-Culler, and is for anyone interested in learning how to create functional and/or fun objects from clay. Beginners will start with hand-building techniques, and may progress to the basics of wheel-throwing, if time allows. Experienced students will have more choice of creative methods to increase their existing skills. Necessary tools will be available. Information will be available for anyone interested in purchasing their own tools.
Please bring a personal hand-towel, a large butter-sized container with lid, and a notebook and pen to the 1st class.
The class fee is $95, and there is also a $20 Clay fee, both due at the 1st class by CASH OR CHECK ONLY.

This 5-week course will likely be the student's first art class. It is designed to teach the basics of drawing, all while having fun drawing their favorite cartoon characters. $10.00 is due at the time of registration, and $50.00 is due to the instructor the first week of class.

This 5-week course focuses on building fundamental drawing skills. Students will learn basic techniques such as shading, controlling tones, and drawing methods. This is an intro to crochet class! Feel free to come in at 5 or later. Please bring a crochet hook.

This 5-week course is designed for beginners and those with minimal painting experience. Students will learn the basics of handling acrylic paints and brushes and explore various techniques and subject matter. The instructor will provide a list of suggested supplies first class, with students responsible for their painting canvas (no larger than 16" x 20"). $10.00 is due at the time of registration, and $50.00 is due to the instructor's first week of class.

Learn the concepts of tying differently shaped knots and then repeating and combining them to form patterns that makes your piece unique. Participants will learn to choose cord, measure and cut create a chain of knots add fringe and bring chains together, create a basket closure and trim. All material is provided.

Learn how to crochet a cuddly little bear in this beginner friendly class! All supplies are provided. You won't bear-lieve how cute these will turn out!

Participants, ages 18+, learn the basic principles of glass mosaics. This includes design, nipping glass, gluing techniques, color and tone, flow of glass elements, and grouting. Each participant will complete 2 pieces during the 8-week instructional period. All glass, supplies, and tools are provided in this class. However, if students want a particular texture or color of glass, they are encouraged to provide that for themselves. Locally, Hobby Lobby carries a wide variety of glass colors and textures. Participants may also order specific glass choices online.

This is a 6 week wheel-throwing class; beginners welcome! Participants will learn the basics of using a pottery wheel, as well as glazing techniques.

Come learn the beginning skills for jewelry making and metalworking. Traditional bench techniques like sawing, hammering, and soldering. We will also learn to use kiln fired enamel and set it into a piece of jewelry.
All levels welcome. No experience needed. all tools and supplies included.

Blast off into a space themed paint and sip at Portland Community Center! For this acrylic painting session, supplies and snacks will be provided. Participants will be able to take home their piece at the end of the class!

This class will focus on the technique of ‘warm glass.’ This involves design and layering glass elements, while considering overall composition. Instruction will be given on how to cut and layer glass, how to use tone and depth of glass stacks to anticipate the completed fused appearance. Glass will have an initial kiln firing which is how the glass is ‘melted’, or fused together. Participants will also learn how to design their fused creation to anticipate the ‘look’ of the piece after it has had a second kiln firing on a mold of their choosing. Each piece requires 2 kiln firings.

This is a home school pottery class. Students will complete projects given by instructor learning techniques for ceramics art and principles of design. Older students will have the opportunity to learn wheel throwing and all students will participate in hand building. Glazing will also be taught. Students will have the opportunity to participate in class critiques, practicing how to present their work and ideas, self-reflect on projects and their participation in the course, and how to give constructive criticism to both themselves and class mates.

Participants will be able to make a ceramic flower pot without the commitment of a whole length pottery class. We will be using basic hand building techniques for this class. Participants will choose their color of glaze before leaving for the instructor to glaze so the student will be able to pick everything up in the same day.

From carving to stamping, color slips to glazing, and even crafting your own decoration tools, this class is designed to enhance your skills and unleash your creativity. Each session blends instruction, demonstrations, and guided practice, offering a supportive environment to explore and expand your creative horizons.
