Home school: 2D Arts - 0509051

In this class students will learn the foundational skills and exercises to develop a strong drawing and creative approaches to works of art created on a 2-Dimensional surface. Students will learn how to compose a drawing, value tonal ranges, surface texture, and various trompe l'eiol techniques to make an object look three dimensional on a page. Students will be working with a variety of media such as charcoal, graphite, acrylic paint, cyanotype, and more! Come and explore various forms of drawing and grow your abilities to working with different media! Bringing a sketchbook of any kind is highly recommended (9x12in; 8.5x11in; or 5.5 x 8in).

Adult Pottery With Sarah - 10205207

Come and learn how to make all things that pour: pitchers, creamers, tea pots and more! Whether you are more interested in hand building techniques or throwing techniques students will be challenged creating forms that are designed to pour. This course will focus on proportion of vessels with handles and spouts, challenging and engaging functional forms that illustrate personal interests and aesthetics. The fees associated with this course cover costs of instructor, materials, and one bag of clay.
This 8-week course will focus on the following topics where students will be given the space and time to choose to complete any of the prompts. This class is designed for those who have had experience with clay.
Small pitchers such as creamers; Emphasis on creating handles
Large Pitchers with matching cup set; Balancing handles and spouts
Watering/Oil Can: Creating a functional piece in parts and then putting them together.
Tea sets (Tea pot with two matching cups): Creating a themed set
Other topics: surface treatments; glazing, underglazing, creating textures, decorative techniques featuring sgraffito and inlay.

Adult Pottery - 10905212

This 7 - week class will be taught by Deanna Estes-Culler, and is for anyone interested in learning how to create functional and/or fun objects from clay. Beginners will start with hand-building techniques, and may progress to the basics of wheel-throwing, if time allows. Experienced students will have more choice of creative methods to increase their existing skills. Necessary tools will be available. Information will be available for anyone interested in purchasing their own tools.
Please bring a personal hand-towel, a large butter-sized container with lid, and a notebook and pen to the 1st class.
The class fee is $95, and there is also a $20 Clay fee, both due at the 1st class by CASH OR CHECK ONLY.
Class size is limited to 10 students.

Pre-registration is required online, with a $20 fee paid to Metro Parks at that time. Late registration may be possible.

Beginning Cartooning - 1090521A

This 8-week course will likely be the student's first art class. It is designed to teach the basics of drawing, all while having fun drawing their favorite cartoon characters. We’ll learn about various styles of cartooning (traditional, anime, illustrative, caricature) and even create flip books. $10.00 is due at time of registration and $80.00 is due to the instructor first week of class.

Adult Watercolor - 1090521E

This is a 6 week* watercolor course offered to 55 and older to those with beginner or intermediate level of painting abilities. In this course, participants will meet twice a week (Wednesdays and Fridays) to learn or add to a foundational understanding of watercolor skills and techniques. Participants can expect that after taking this course that they will have increased confidence in the medium and it will serve as a prerequisite into more advanced level watercolor painting courses. Participants will not need to purchase painting materials, however a supply list of materials will be provided to those who wish to continue painting outside of class meeting times to continue developing painting skills. Participants are encouraged to bring a pencil and their sketchbook to each meeting time. *Due to camps this class will not meet during the week of Sept 30, however will resume meeting for the last week of Oct 7. *

Intro to Acrylic Painting - 1090541A

This 8-week course is for beginners and those with minimal painting experience. Intro to Glass Mosaics - 20205230

Participants, ages 18+, learn the basic principles of glass mosaics. This includes design, nipping glass, gluing techniques, color and tone, flow of glass elements, and grouting. Each participant will complete 2 pieces during the 8-week instructional period. All glass, supplies, and tools are provided in this class. However, if students want a particular texture or color of glass, they are encouraged to provide that for themselves. Locally, Hobby Lobby carries a wide variety of glass colors and textures. Participants may also order specific glass choices online.



$20 registration fee due at registration, and $95 payment due first session payable to instructor Rhonda Snyder. Registration and reservations for class must be completed at least one week prior to first class.
No class on June 19th for the holiday.

Intro to Warm Glass (Fusing and Slumping) - 40205232

This class will focus on the technique of ‘warm glass.’ This involves design and layering glass elements, while considering overall composition. Instruction will be given on how to cut and layer glass, how to use tone and depth of glass stacks to anticipate the completed fused appearance. Glass will have an initial kiln firing which is how the glass is ‘melted’, or fused together. Participants will also learn how to design their fused creation to anticipate the ‘look’ of the piece after it has had a second kiln firing on a mold of their choosing. Each piece requires 2 kiln firings.
