In this class students will learn the foundational skills and exercises to develop a strong drawing and creative approaches to works of art created on a 2-Dimensional surface. Students will learn how to compose a drawing, value tonal ranges, surface texture, and various trompe l'eiol techniques to make an object look three dimensional on a page. Students will be working with a variety of media such as charcoal, graphite, acrylic paint, cyanotype, and more! Come and explore various forms of drawing and grow your abilities to working with different media! Bringing a sketchbook of any kind is highly recommended (9x12in; 8.5x11in; or 5.5 x 8in).

Come and learn how to make all things that pour: pitchers, creamers, tea pots and more! Whether you are more interested in hand building techniques or throwing techniques students will be challenged creating forms that are designed to pour. This course will focus on proportion of vessels with handles and spouts, challenging and engaging functional forms that illustrate personal interests and aesthetics. The fees associated with this course cover costs of instructor, materials, and one bag of clay.
This 8-week course will focus on the following topics where students will be given the space and time to choose to complete any of the prompts. This class is designed for those who have had experience with clay.
Small pitchers such as creamers; Emphasis on creating handles
Large Pitchers with matching cup set; Balancing handles and spouts
Watering/Oil Can: Creating a functional piece in parts and then putting them together.
Tea sets (Tea pot with two matching cups): Creating a themed set
Other topics: surface treatments; glazing, underglazing, creating textures, decorative techniques featuring sgraffito and inlay.

Celebrate the spooky season by painting a cute (or scary!) ghost! Instruction led by Alena at Metro Arts Community Center. Refreshments and light snacks will be provided. Medium will be acrylic; participants will be able to take their creation home with them at the end of the night.

This 7 - week class will be taught by Deanna Estes-Culler, and is for anyone interested in learning how to create functional and/or fun objects from clay. Beginners will start with hand-building techniques, and may progress to the basics of wheel-throwing, if time allows. Experienced students will have more choice of creative methods to increase their existing skills. Necessary tools will be available. Information will be available for anyone interested in purchasing their own tools.
Please bring a personal hand-towel, a large butter-sized container with lid, and a notebook and pen to the 1st class.
The class fee is $95, and there is also a $20 Clay fee, both due at the 1st class by CASH OR CHECK ONLY.

This 8-week course will likely be the student's first art class. It is designed to teach the basics of drawing, all while having fun drawing their favorite cartoon characters. We’ll learn about various styles of cartooning (traditional, anime, illustrative, caricature) and even create flip books. $10.00 is due at time of registration and $80.00 is due to the instructor first week of class.

This 8-week course builds essential drawing skills, covering techniques like shading, tone control, and different drawing methods. Students will challenge preconceived notions about appearances and learn to see subjects as they truly are. The course also explores elements such as line, shape, form, space, value, color, and texture, and introduces various drawing mediums and artistic styles. A $10 registration fee is due upon signing up, with an additional $80 payment due to the instructor in the first week.

This is a 6 week* watercolor course offered to 55 and older to those with beginner or intermediate level of painting abilities. In this course, participants will meet twice a week (Wednesdays and Fridays) to learn or add to a foundational understanding of watercolor skills and techniques. Participants can expect that after taking this course that they will have increased confidence in the medium and it will serve as a prerequisite into more advanced level watercolor painting courses. Participants will not need to purchase painting materials, however a supply list of materials will be provided to those who wish to continue painting outside of class meeting times to continue developing painting skills. Participants are encouraged to bring a pencil and their sketchbook to each meeting time. *Due to camps this class will not meet during the week of Sept 30, however will resume meeting for the last week of Oct 7. *

This is an intro to crochet class! Feel free to come in at 5 or later. Please bring a crochet hook.

This 8-week course is for beginners and those with minimal painting experience. You'll learn basic acrylic painting techniques, including handling paints and brushes, and explore various styles and subjects. The course covers line, shape, form, space, value, color, and texture. A list of suggested supplies will be provided; students must bring their own canvas (up to 16” x 20”). Register with a $10 fee, and pay the remaining $80 to the instructor during the first week.

Learn how to crochet a spooky pal just in time for Halloween! All materials provided in this beginner friendly class.

Participants, ages 18+, learn the basic principles of glass mosaics. This includes design, nipping glass, gluing techniques, color and tone, flow of glass elements, and grouting. Each participant will complete 2 pieces during the 8-week instructional period. All glass, supplies, and tools are provided in this class. However, if students want a particular texture or color of glass, they are encouraged to provide that for themselves. Locally, Hobby Lobby carries a wide variety of glass colors and textures. Participants may also order specific glass choices online.

This is a 6 week wheel-throwing class; beginners welcome! Participants will learn the basics of using a pottery wheel, as well as glazing techniques.

Come learn the beginning skills for jewelry making and metalworking. Traditional bench techniques like sawing, hammering, and soldering. We will also learn to use kiln fired enamel and set it into a piece of jewelry.
All levels welcome. No experience needed. all tools and supplies included.

This hands-on course is for adults who want to engage in the fun and fulfilling experience of creating useful art objects from clay through hand-building techniques.
Come and explore ways to construct planters, plant stakes and watering cans. Anyone of any abilities can come and make all things relating to garden and plants. There is additional an artist fee of $95 and a $20 clay fee to be paid to the artist. Tools and supplies are provided.

Join us for a Breakfast Club and Crafts at MACC on Saturday mornings! Participants will make a variety of crafts, most of which can be taken home at the end of the session. Drinks and breakfast snacks will be provided, as well as all crafting materials!

This is a class on how to use a Sewing Machine with projects to learn this skill. The classes are Starting on 9/17/24 and go to 12/10/24 call 502-937-8802 for all dates and times. The age group for this class is 12+ and there is a $20.00 Registration Fee.

This will be a fun class we will make a tote bag for all you need. There is a $20.00 registration fee, and you will need to call the center for the supply list.

This class will focus on the technique of ‘warm glass.’ This involves design and layering glass elements, while considering overall composition. Instruction will be given on how to cut and layer glass, how to use tone and depth of glass stacks to anticipate the completed fused appearance. Glass will have an initial kiln firing which is how the glass is ‘melted’, or fused together. Participants will also learn how to design their fused creation to anticipate the ‘look’ of the piece after it has had a second kiln firing on a mold of their choosing. Each piece requires 2 kiln firings.

This is a home school pottery class. Students will complete projects given by instructor learning techniques for ceramics art and principles of design. Older students will have the opportunity to learn wheel throwing and all students will participate in hand building. Glazing will also be taught. Students will have the opportunity to participate in class critiques, practicing how to present their work and ideas, self-reflect on projects and their participation in the course, and how to give constructive criticism to both themselves and class mates.

Want to try pottery without the commitment of a long class, or use a lot a travel mugs? Join us a MACC for this one night class and make your own ceramic travel mug! Hand building techniques will be used, with the option to add on a handle, and a surface design of your choice! All materials will be provided. Participants will leave their mugs to be fired at the end of the class, and will be contacted when their piece is ready to be picked up!

Each week students will be given a clay project to complete or a more in depth project to complete over the course of several weeks. Students will have the option to re-enroll each season to continue participating in the clay club. This will be a time to connect with others through art. After school snacks will be provided.

Come learn how to make cloth into art with embroidery and needlework at MACC! Participants will learn basic stitches to build up their own example library before moving on to patterns and designs. This beginner friendly class taught by Alena is open to participants ages 10 and up. All materials will be provided, and light refreshments and snacks will be available as well!
